Peckham born & raised, Artist and choreographer Ivan Blackstock began his career training at The Place, and soon began working on music videos, adverts and dance productions with artists 
such as Dizzee Rascal, Rita Ora and will.i.am. He worked with many of the leading names in Hip Hop dance including ZooNation and Jonzi D / Breakin Convention. His television credits 
include BBC’s So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing with the Stars USA and he has worked with brands such as Adidas, Reebok and Samsung. He was previously a judge 
for the BBC’s Young Dancer of the Year competition and went to South Africa to choreograph an advertising campaign for drinks brand Guinness.

After establishing a successful commercial career, 
Ivan went on to co-found BirdGang Dance Company and create his own work, including the critically acclaimed production A Harlem Dream at The Young Vic, 
where Ivan was appointed Associate Artist. Most recently Ivan has begun to focus on his work as an independent artist and creating work via his artistic alter ego SWNSNG. His work can be 
described as intense, highly political and thought-provoking dance theatre. His work has been presented at Sadler’s Well’s, Breakin’ Convention Festival, Latitude Festival, La Villette in Paris 
and The National Theatre’s outdoor programme in Summer 2017.
